Beer: Our Story

With a few brilliant awards under our belt including……

2017 Lionheart Lager – Silver
2018 Lionheart Lager – Silver
2018 Madking Pilsner – Gold
2019 Monksbrew Dunkel – Silver

In 2000, while spending many a night in parts of Southern Africa, yearning for an ice cold beer, Cliff started to dream about starting his very own Micro Brewery.

This prompted him to purchase a home brew kit in 2009 and start his new adventure. He starting working on various beer styles, trying to brew that perfect beer.

A few years later, he joined forces with William Battersby, an experienced FMCG Sales Director. Clearly another man with a passion for beer, having also worked for SAB as a regional sales manager for several years.

Together they started developing “Kings Craft Brewing Company”.

After finalising a brand and making sure the strategy was set, they produced the first kegged batch of 2000Lt in 2013. LionHeart lager, our flagship brew of Kings Craft Brewery.

It was a true family affair as Will’s family assisted with sales and promotions at every opportunity. This included helping hands from his sister, Esther and brother, John.

In 2016 Andre and Dominique joined the Kings Craft Brewery family as shareholders and directors. These two avid beer lovers brought in much needed additional resources to help grow the brand.

In 2017 KCBC moved into the first official offices and warehouse in Maitland with a new cold room and entertainment area. A place to ponder the new beer adventures that would be had in the years to come.

And so the adventure began…

As we continued to develop and grow, we created our MadKing Pilsner which was launched at the end of 2017.

With a few brilliant awards under our belt including… we continue to develop, brew and grow KCBC, all whilst having a blast!
